Day 5 "Broken Wings"

Happy Labor Day! I took a detour from the book's suggestion today to create a necklace that I have been thinking about since I decided on my theme. I found this butterfly on the floor of my garage. It looked whole, but when I lifted it up one of the wings fell off. The color of the butterfly was beautiful against the gray concrete and it looked so pristine until I inspected it closer. I think this is similar to how we view life, other people's life looks so glorious, but when you look at it closely it still has flaws. I decided to turn the wing into a necklace as a reminder to myself about how my creative journey over the next year may reveal my own flaws and beauty.

Day 4 "Mono Bugs"

Today I needed to use a print in my work, so I made a watercolor monoprint on a plexiglass plate for the background image of the flowers. After that was dry I incorporated colored pencil to create the butterflies and add detail onto the flowers. I am very please with the result. I especially like where I broke the frame of the image with the butterfly that goes onto the border.

Day 3 "Tattered Wings"

Today I had to create a piece using a sheet of paper without being able to draw on it, use glue or scissors. My result is a torn paper butterfly that is held together with thread. Stitching through the twisted paper was harder than I imagined it would be. I photographed it on a fake flower arrangement to give it a dark environmental background that was just as fake as it is.

Day 2 "Wanna Kiss"

Today I needed to incorporate my favorite animal into my artwork, so a frog made an appearance. I decided to work with mixed media of acrylic, watercolor, various papers, ink and foil. The initial to have the frog eating a fly morphed into a "frog price" that is searching for a kiss in all of the wrong ways. I hope you enjoy.

Day 1 "Board Bugs"

Today is the first day of my creative journey. The assignment was to create something that fits into the palm of my hand with only materials in my immediate environment. After work I visited my husband at his job and utilized junk parts from an electronics company to create "board bugs." They are made out of scrap parts for electronics boards. By working with these materials I also learned how to solder. I hope you enjoy.
